Legislative support for the JWPT

Published by in Funding ·
In 2015, the John Wayne Pioneer Trail was almost lost when State legislators from the 9th District included a budget proviso giving an eastern section of the trail to adjacent land owners. An error in wording nullified the proviso, temporarily saving the trail.

Now that we are into the 2017 legislative session, trail supporters want to hear from their legislators regarding their support of the 2017 State Parks budget requests.that would support this recreational asset.

This budget proposal for State Parks would help guarantee improvements to the John Wayne Pioneer Trail as well as improving and maintaining Washington State Parks throughout the state.

The Beverly Bridge

Published by in Trail Gaps ·

The Beverly Bridge, the trestle that crosses the Columbia River, bisects the John Wayne Pioneer Trail into east and west, and is currently closed for safety concerns. This represents a significant trail gap. Washington Depart. of Natural Resources (DNR) owns this bridge. We would like to hear from trail supporters regarding their thoughts on renovating this bridge and DNR's responsibility for maintaining the section of the JWPT still owned by DNR ("Milwaukee Corridor" - between Beverly and Lind).
